Growing up in Colombia we used to have this set of coloring pencils called Magicolor, they had 2 different sizes, a smaller one that came in a plastic pouch, and a big one that came in a plastic case that bent over and created a little display where you can put it on your desk and pick colors without them spilling everywhere. The cool thing about them was that they were bi-color, a perfectly paired duo, everyone had them, except for the real artsy kids who got the more expensive and professional prismacolor, since each color was smaller than a regular sized pencil (only half of the length) you obviously used most of them during the school year, so you knew for sure every year you would get a new set, at least that was my case.
I used them until it was almost impossible to sharpen them, all of them except for one that seemed to make it in one piece to the new year, in the end I probably had 4 or 5 of them because I did not like the colors or the combination, funny if you knew that it was gray and pink, given it was more of a flesh colored pink that a full bright neon like my top, but still it was such a great combination, I mean, who doesn't like pink and gray together? they compliment each other so perfectly, you can do muted pink, girly pink, or like I did here a bright neon pink, and as for gray, dark or very light, either way they pair like coffee and cream, perfectly delicious.
It's amazing how things change, if anyone would have told me that the underdog color pencil would end up being one of my favorite combinations of all time, I would have laughed, after all it was the bright yellow and blue pencil that never made it past the first months (We'll blame all the smiling clouds and sunshine I used to draw when I was little, with mountains, you can't really live in Medellin and not love them).
