Spots + Stripes

I hope everyone had a great weekend, mine was pretty uneventful, but I did manage to get some rest, and squeeze in some grocery shopping to plan my whole meals in advance, I have been trying to eat a little bit better and more consistently throughout the day and planing ahead is a great way to make sure I stay on track, it has allowed me to make better choices, plus I do love this little market close to my house, sometimes I am able to find fruits that I haven't seen since I moved here, so it's a great little treat.

Last week it was like monsoon season down here in Florida, it was pouring everyday all day, kind of crazy if you take into consideration that we normally get 5 minute showers and that's it, so while a lot of you are already wearing boots with light layers we had to settle for rain boots and, in my case, a dress (that I totally copied from Rachelle). I have never been a fan of  how boots and a dress look on me, I don't know why, but I have to admit that it is starting to slowly rub on me and I might give it another try once we are "allowed" to wear boots for a full day without melting down here.

Things I can't live without

I was asked a couple of days ago what would I put in a survival kit, if I was only allowed to keep a couple of things, this was not a "being abandoned in a deserted island" kind of survival kit, because we all know the first thing I will pack will be bug repellent and a machete, you know, for bigger bugs.

This is more of a things you reach out for daily, things that would make you go crazy if you lost them or didn't have them, well without further ado here they are:
Things I can't live without

1) It is pretty embarrassing, but I have to admit that my phone will probably be at the top of the list, I am not saying a really can't survive without it, I mean, growing up pagers were the coolest thing; but let's be honest our phones are definitely multitaskers, entertainers, and super useful. So there you go lame but true.

2) CANDYYYYYYY, if you have ever read this blog you know that besides vacations I put my weight on around Halloween, forget Christmas/Thanksgiving I can control myself on those dates, but unlimited supply of Kit-Kats, Twix, and the almighty Chunky, I mean Chunky and God bless America (we didn't have it back in Colombia)  that's all I have to say.

3) Lip balms, I have a sick amount of them everywhere, my bag, my car, my desk, my bathroom, in purses I don't use, they have always been an obsession, I remember one time I was visiting my uncle and I made him pull over at every single Eckerd we drove by to get all the flavors of a lip balm in a jar they used to sell. This doesn't mean that I have super smooth lips, I collect them, I don't necessarily put them to good use all the time, but I will cry if I can't find one handy.

And last but not least....

4) PJ Shorts, is there anything better that spending your day lounging in PJ shorts? I think not, I sleep in them, take the trash out in them, walk my dog in them, in all honesty I have no shame when it comes to wearing PJ shorts, my neighbors might think is the only thing I wear, but I do not care, my love affair with PJ shorts is the real deal. I even have a pair of fuzzy ones I wear during the holidays, hey, just because it doesn't snow in Florida it doesn't mean we can't get in with the whole white Christmas and cold weather.

Cobalt

I wore this outfit last weekend to a friend's birthday party, and I have to admit that I was surprised to see the power a pop of color and some pretty shoes have, they definitely transform a simple outfit and bring it up a notch, and if you take into consideration that I only paid $9.95 for the shoes... I mean, who can beat that?

It was a simple get together with some friends and family so nothing too over the top was required, so I wore this mesh boxy top with a statement necklace, a pair of cobalt jeans, that I've had since forever, I think they were the first pair of colored jeans I bough and an awesome #fabfound, and to spice it up this awesome shoes; I've told Carylee several times that I don't know how she manages to wear heels all the time, but this ones are so comfy that I can definitely give heels one more chance.

Burgundy & Lace

Burgundy and corduroy have always reminded me of colder weather (keep in mind there is no real winter in Colombia), I grew up spending all my weekends in a little house we had up in the mountains, the weather was between low 70's and high 50's all year round, so sweaters, hot cocoa and cozy pants were a must, I still remember a pair of brow corduroys that I wore until they fell apart.

Corduroys bring a very particular memory to my mind, you see in Colombia we don't have April's fool, we have a similar "joke" day but it takes place in December, so I was spending the holiday weeks with some relatives in our little mountain house and my cousin and I decided to play a joke on my parents, we had been rollerskating (don't pay attention to the age reference)  and decided to pretend that I had fallen and cut my face, we went to the hospital to ask one of the nurses to help us fake the cut and stitches. You can imagine how she flipped out and started lecturing us on how that was a hospital and not a playground and everything else that came to her mind, after maybe 10-15 minutes of lecture and when we were ready to leave one of the Doctors comes out to see what was going on, and guess what he was wearing...... a pair of brown corduroy pants.

He asked us what happened and after we told him, he said he would help us only because I was wearing his favorite pants too; so he put some thread on my cheek, covered it with micro pore and iodine and we walked out of the hospital looking like I just got some bad cut on my face that require 5 stitches, minus the bruising and red eyes that should have gone with it.

You can imagine how everyone freaked out when they saw "the stitches" that cut half of my face, everyone was freaking out and we were in a lot of trouble after, regardless it turned out to be a great joke; but in the end the joke was on me, a couple of years latter I had to have surgery to remove a cyst from my face, and you can guess where the scar of that surgery is, right were my fake scar should have been.

How is that for a random memory over some corduroy pants, do you have any pieces that bring back a particular event in your life?

Checks n' Stripes

Still experimenting with pattern mixing and my camera settings, and even though this outfit looked really nice in person, the top came out washed out in the pictures, but I promise you the top is brighter, more like the way it came out in the second picture.

I am really happy with all this experimenting, it creates a whole new world of opportunities and it expands your closet so much, pieces that you thought were pretty limited as to their possibilities; like this top that I probably would have only worn with jeans, create complete new outfits in your mind, I am already wanting to pair it with leggings, boots and a vest when the weather allows it.

Blush & Gray

I'm not going to lie, the temperature down here is still boiling hot most of the days, but it has also been raining and sometimes a little bit over cast, so we can be fooled that fall temperatures are around the corner. Don't get me wrong I love bright colors, even during "winter" time down here, but there is something so cozy and comforting in wearing earth tones, fall and muted colors, it just makes you dream of hot chocolate and the upcoming holidays, so while a girl in Florida can just dream we like to take advantage of any chance we have to wear anything that resembles fall.

So, I paired this gray jeans that I bought on one of those great Old Navy sales, with blush sandals and top, and to break the color scheme a bit I used my lavender bag, kept the accessories simple so that the neckline is the center of attention, and prayed that by noon time the weather hasn't gone too crazy.
